Standardised Tests

Post by Elizabeth »

The RRF proposes that standardised tests are used regularly to identify children whose reading is poor for their age. Soon there will be a blog about this on the RRF website, so look out for it! Meanwhile, yesterday I was pleased to be sent an advert which began like this:
Standardised reading assessments to support struggling readers

According to Ofsted, each year a quarter of 11-year-olds enter secondary school with a reading age that's below the expected standard.

Ofsted's autumn 2022 report found that schools who accurately screened for gaps in reading knowledge and followed up with diagnostic tests to identify areas of weakness helped learners to achieve proficient levels of reading fluency.

Our standardised reading assessments offer a two-step solution for quickly assessing reading ability and following up with an in-depth assessment of specific reading skills.
Hopefully, the regular use of standardised tests for reading and spelling will soon increase and eventually become the norm.
