Teacher and literacy specialist, Rob Randel, raises his concerns about official guidance on reading instruction in Wales. Rob compares it to official guidance in England - which notably has similarities but also some distinct differences. He asks the question as to why officials in Wales consider that children in Wales need something different from the evidence-informed reading instruction now well-embedded and supported by the Department for Education in England. After all, it is the SAME alphabetic code and phonics skills that all children should need when being taught to read and spell in the English language:
