Does anyone here want an initial teaching alphabet? In practice pronunciations differ enough that naive phonetic spellings would also, IIRC. Moreover, this particular one is unlikely to represent UK English, since we distinguish vowels that (some at least) Americans don't, e.g. merry, Mary, marry.

The vital point is transition to orthodox spelling. I guess that ITA has been much evaluated, but I don't know whom to trust.
