Outstanding primary schools fail Ofsted inspections under sudden rule switch

I’ve always felt that the shools Inspectorate were out of touch with the day to day functioning of class room life. A number of years ago we were trialling a new English and Maths curriculum for the lower streams. One day two inspectors arrived at the school. The English inspector sat in on one of my classes and when she had finished her observation she went to meet with her maths colleague in our school library which had been made available. They sent for two of my pupils to interview, you have to remember the environment that these pupils grew up in in Northern Ireland, which made them suspicious of all unknown authority figures. After about 20 minutes the two boys arrived back in the class room. One of them said to me, ‘ Mr. Curran there were two strange women in the Library and they were asking a lot of questions, I think they were police women, I told them nothing.’
