This kind of 'slow education' surely depends a lot on the quality of the teacher. Secondary-school teachers really need subject-specific degree-level qualifications: reasonably in-depth study of a particular subject involves a certain amount of broadening of general knowledge along the way which puts teachers in a better position to pass this on to students. Is it arguable that teachers of upper-primary children should also have similar qualifications?
